By reservation, schools can visit the Museum from 8.00.

Usually the Museum will be closed on Christmas and on the 1st of January, but there may be extraordinary openings decided by the Ministry. Please contact us if more information are required.

- For the italian teaching staff the entrance is free in every archaeological areas or museums of the State. They can also visit the temporary exhibitions, since the Ministry (Mibac) has joined that initiative, by using dedicated vouchers available on cartadeldocente.istruzione.it, active starting from the 30th November 2016 (vedi circolare n.77/2016 DG-Musei);
- Volunteers who collaborate with the Ministry through conventions;
- Inspectors and Honorary Conservatives of the Ministry;
- Carabinieri of the Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage;
- I.C.C.R.O.M. members;

How to get there

BY CAR
On A4 motorway, exit at Palmanova. Follow the directions to Aquileia-Grado on SR 352 road. As you reach Aquileia along Via Julia Augusta street, follow the silhouette of the Campanile to reach Piazza Capitolo, 1.

BY TRAIN
Railway Station: Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado. Then, take public transport (Saf or Apt buses) to reach Aquileia. Get off at “Aquileia Centro”, then follow the silhouette of the Campanile to reach the Basilica (5 minutes’ walk).

BY PLANE
International Airport of Ronchi dei Legionari. Then, take public transport (Saf or Apt buses) to reach Aquileia. Get off at “Aquileia Centro”, then follow the silhouette of the Campanile to reach the Basilica (5 minutes’ walk).

On an interesting tour, you will experience the glory and ancient splendour of what was once one of the capitals of the Roman Empire. It will show you the fundamental traces of one of the major archaeological sites in Italy, from the Roman forum to the huge patriarchal basilica.

In a majestic agricultural building built on the remains of an early Christian basilica of the fourth century, there is a unique collection of late ancient artifacts that tells us about Christianity from its origins. The museum displays the mosaics of the early Christian church and the church of Beligna (now destroyed) on three floors and a conspicuous patrimony of epigraphic and sculptural material. An evocative and surprising story awaits you which will reveal another piece of the history of Aquileia.

In collaboration with the National Deaf Association of FVG, free Italian Sign Language interpreters are made available upon request. You can book the service until 48 hours before the tour by contacting the relevant Infopoint.
