Aquileia Brings Its Origins Back to Life with Tempora in Aquileia 2026

19–21 June 2026: 500 re-enactors, fire theatre, falconry, aerial acrobatics and three days of living history between Celts and Romans

Aquileia is getting ready to relive the spirit of its origins with Tempora in Aquileia. From Friday 19 to Sunday 21 June 2026, the historic centre and archaeological areas of this UNESCO World Heritage city will be transformed into an open-air stage, taking visitors back to the founding of Aquileia in 181 BC.

The theme of this edition is "The Founding of the City: the Sulcus Primigenius" — the primordial furrow that, according to Roman tradition, marked the sacred boundaries of the city at the moment of its foundation. Against the historical backdrop of the raid led by consul Gaius Cassius Longinus into the territory of the Carnic Gauls, over 500 costumed re-enactors will bring battles, rituals, ceremonies and performances to life, drawing the audience into an authentic journey through time among Roman legionaries and Celtic warriors.
