Fondazione Aquileia has endorsed as beneficiary the project UNESCO World Heritage Journeys in Europe. The project is aimed at developing and promoting transeuropean themed cultural itineraries across the sites included in the World Heritage List. Funded by the European Commission – DG for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs following the approval of a Preparatory Action by the European Parliament, the project was entrusted to UNESCO and to National Geographic.

Aquileia is included in an itinerary named Ancient Europe, which also encompasses the UNESCO sites of Tarragon (Spain), Epidaurus and Olympia (Greece), Stari Grad (Croatia), Tier (Germany), Pont du Gard (France) and Nessebar (Bulgaria).

The purpose of the project is to develop a digital platform that will help promote the itinerary in a unitary manner, especially to the US and Chinese markets, and offer a different approach to the understanding of the sites.
